Silica Sand Production Potential, Quality, and Market Analysis Case Study in the Kella Locality, South Sodo District, Ethiopia
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Silica Sand is an essential input material in the manufacturing of sandpaper, glass materials, abrasives, polishing powders, heat-resistant materials (refractories), and bearings of precision instruments. This mineral is found abundantly all over the world, including Ethiopia. The study area is situated in Kella locality, South Sodo district, Ethiopia. This research involved mapping observation points for geological analysis, with 16 silica sand samples collected to assess resource quality through physico-chemical analysis and testing. the result confirmed from experimental analysis has been done in a geo-chemical laboratory; on average silica sand quality is 97.21% implies the pure industrial silica sand. The production and market demand of Silica sand has been addressed. The New Era silica sand, availability, and the local, regional, and global trends of silica sand production, demand, and supply have been treated. Further study is required to enhance the sector and for the solution of glass and related industrial demand.
