JONGO

Type: article
Abstract: This text will analyze the aesthetics of Jongo, its history and the anthropological aspects of this rhythmic cultural practice, which is the oldest of the diaspora and which still lives in some cities of the Paraíba do Sul River Valley or in the memory of its inhabitants. In part of its trajectory, Jongo overcame genocide, slavery, attempts at cultural appropriation and juxtaposition to enter, in the 21st century, as Brazilian material and immaterial heritage. For this reason, Jongo is configured as an intangible cultural wealth that includes the notions of group, knowledge and traditions.
