A SysML-based framework towards EASA CS-23 digitalization: An MBSE approach
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The general aviation sector has experienced a marked increase in relevance, driven by rising aircraft sales and a growing demand for advanced technological solutions. These innovations challenge current certification and operational frameworks, which remain largely Document-Based and inefficient, resulting in increased time and cost burdens for manufacturers. This article proposes a digital, automated framework to support the certification of next-generation general aviation aircraft. The approach is grounded in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and utilizes the Systems Modeling Language (SysML) to encode European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Certification Specifications (CS), including Acceptable Means of Compliance (AMC), in a structured digital model. The proposed methodology aims to significantly reduce certification time and costs, thereby improving the competitiveness of the general aviation market and enabling the development of entirely new aircraft categories. Furthermore, the framework is adaptable to high-performance commercial aircraft certified under the EASA CS-25 or FAA FAR 25 regulations, indicating its broader applicability across the aviation industry.
