Abstract: International initiatives for preserving sustainable digital heritage represent a fundamental component of global efforts to safeguard humanity’s digital memory and ensure intergenerational access. These initiatives vary widely and are launched by governmental bodies, international organizations, and research centers. Accordingly, this study aims to explore and analyze the initiatives and projects developed by international organizations and bodies concerned with the sustainable preservation of digital heritage—focusing on the issuing bodies, their objectives, target audiences, and implementation mechanisms. To achieve the study’s objectives and answer its research questions, the descriptive survey method was employed. The study yielded several significant findings, the most notable being that the sustainable preservation of digital heritage is a collective responsibility that requires collaborative efforts from governments, heritage preservation institutions, academic entities, and society at large. Moreover, international initiatives like UNESCO’s PERSIST provide practical models that can be adapted to the Arab context. However, many Arab institutions still rely on partial solutions or outsourcing without the presence of comprehensive national policies for digital heritage preservation. The study recommends the development of comprehensive national policies for digital heritage preservation that include preservation standards, clear legal frameworks, community engagement strategies, and the establishment of a regional Arab center for sustainable digital heritage preservation. This center would serve as a platform for sharing expertise and best practices and contribute to building a shared database of Arab digital cultural heritage.
