Abstract: Simulating magnetically confined fusion plasmas presents a uniquely challenging problem due to the nonlinear anisotropic heat conduction. We introduce the MAPS (MFEM Anisotropic Plasma Solver) tool, which uses a high-order finite element method to compute transport solutions on unstructured meshes. We show results for a set of three 2-D verification tests, two of which demonstrate the expected convergence properties for various mesh resolutions and polynomial degrees. We then discuss the convergence rate for the third test.
