Dental Implants in the Geriatric Population: A Systematic Review of Success Rates, Systemic Risks, and Quality of Life Outcomes
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: As the global population ages, the demand for fixed dental rehabilitation has surged. This paper evaluates the long-term success of dental implants in patients aged 65 and older. Through a review of current clinical data, we examine whether chronological age is a primary risk factor for implant failure or if success is more closely tied to systemic health and manual dexterity. Results indicate that 10-year survival rates in the elderly remain high (1$>90\%$), comparable to younger cohorts, provided that systemic conditions like Diabetes Mellitus and osteoporosis are managed.2
