Abstract: Every month, as I read through the various studies published in the Journal, I am struck by the amazing array of international food research.Research institutions around the world have an enduring interest in promoting a sustainable food supply.Like the research published in the Journal, the Institute of Food Technologists also holds an annual meeting that is attended by food technologists, food scientists, and exhibitors from around the world.The Institute of Food Technologists' annual meeting and expo is called IFT FIRST-short for Food Improved by Research, Science, and Technology -and is one of the world's most important annual gatherings for food technologists.Organized by the Institute of Food Technologists, IFT FIRST brings together thousands of professionals from industry, academia, and government to focus on five focus areas: new technology, sustainability, nutrition, food safety, and consumer insights and education.For international attendees in particular, the event is a global meeting point for ideas, partnerships, and technology transfer.To be held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, USA, July 12-15, 2026, FIRST attracts an international audience, with participation from Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.The presence of multinational ingredient suppliers, global processing and packaging companies, and internationally recognized research institutions offers a unique cross-border environment.For food technologists working outside North America, the event provides valuable insight into US regulatory perspectives, food safety frameworks, and innovation priorities that often influence global standards and export requirements.
