Abstract: Life care planners often work with individuals who experience spasticity and hypertonicity as a result of catastrophic injury or disability. This article defines and differentiates spasticity and hypertonicity and offers information about the pathophysiology of these conditions. Beneficial effects are reviewed as well as discussion of specific treatment options which must be considered prior to development of a life care plan.
