The Predictions of Control Effects and Correlations for Influential Factors of a Daylight Dimming System in a Small Office
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study analyzes the control effects of a daylight dimming system and correlations between influential factors for the system in a small south-facing office located in a mid-latitude region to suggest optimum daylight conditions.Computer simulations using Radiance software were conducted for the system under various sky and blind conditions. Results indicate that no blinds in March achieved the 'Best' performance for the desk 3.6m away from window. In the majority of cases for clear sky, the system with no blind conditions overshot the target illuminance on the desk, which was 1.8 m away from window. The system combined with horizontal blinds, which were used for the desk 3.6m away from window, achieved effective controls for all cases except two cases. For a desk 1.8 m away from window, March and June in intermediate sky and June in clear sky were effective conditions for "Good" performance. The majority of 45° blind conditions provided insufficient daylight in overcast sky.The outdoor horizontal and vertical illuminance functioned effectively for the prediction of daylight illuminance of photosensor under overcast sky.Reducing error variance from 78.82% to 99.00%, the daylight illuminance on desks functioned effectively for the prediction of daylight illuminance of photosensor for all sky conditions.
