Design and performance study of novel medical composite lattice structures with low Poisson's ratio and high energy absorption characteristics
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: In this study, two novel medical hybrid lattice structures including Gyroid-reentrant honeycomb hybrid and Diamond-reentrant honeycomb hybrid are proposed, and these structures are successfully fabricated using selective laser melting technology. The mechanical response, energy absorption characteristics, and deformation mechanisms of these hybrid structures under quasi-static compression were systematically investigated. The results show that these structures exhibit elastic moduli similar to those of natural materials and excellent specific energy absorption (SEA). And the hybrid structures demonstrate outstanding comprehensive performance under specific orientations: their SEA is increased by more than 76%, and they possess an extremely low Poisson's ratio as well as better deformation controllability. This study not only holds application potential in bone implants but also provides experimental and theoretical bases for the utilization of these structures in engineering fields such as impact protection and energy absorption components.
