Innovative composite materials based on cement, wood waste and polyethylene terephthalate for industrial construction
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: In the context of growing demands for environmental sustainability and cost reduction of construction materials, the development of composites based on recycled components is of particular scientific and practical interest. This study investigates the strength characteristics of a new composite material based on cement, wood waste, and recycled PET. The experimental part of the research included laboratory tests of 30 material samples conducted in 2024-2025 in accordance with ASTM standards. The results showed that the compressive strength of the material ranges from 12.4 to 14.5 MPa, which is comparable to the characteristics of traditional expanded clay concrete. The flexural strength reached 3.8-4.5 MPa due to the reinforcing effect of the wood-polymer components. The material demonstrates high frost resistance, retaining over 90% of its strength after 50 freeze-thaw cycles, while low water absorption (4.5%) ensures its durability under high humidity conditions. The key advantages of the developed composite are competitive strength characteristics, increased durability, and environmental efficiency through the use of secondary materials. Future research prospects are associated with studying the long-term behavior of the material in various climatic conditions and optimizing its rheological properties.
