Abstract: The article examines the process of sportization of physical education in higher education insti-tutions as a relevant trend in modern educational practice. Theoretical approaches to the concept of sportization are analyzed, including L.I. Lubyshova’s concept, which highlights the dual nature of this phenomenon. Special attention is paid to the impact of sportization on the motivational, health-improving, and educational components of the «Physical Education» course. Both positive and negative aspects of sportization in the university environment are identified, and ways to maintain a balance between sports orientation and the humanistic goals of students’ physical education are outlined
