INGV RUM A Lightweight Rule Manager Framework by INGV
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Rule Managers are essential tools for automating decisions, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, and improving efficiency in data management. This project focuses on the implementation of a simple and lightweight Rule Manager, named Lightweight RUle Manager Framework by INGV (or simply RUM), designed to meet the needs of a data center with specific Data Management requirements and an emphasis on data fairness. The primary objective of RUM is to provide a flexible solution for executing predefined actions on data, ensuring that each dataset is processed according to standardized rules. The system allows the configuration of customized sequences of actions, which can be executed both on a scheduled basis (e.g., via crontab or triggered from the shell) and in response to specific events (e.g., monitoring file insertion in a directory or responding to an endpoint), ensuring wide adaptability. The INGV RUM is designed to optimize resources and enhance process efficiency by taking into account only data that meet user-defined criteria, such as file directory location or metadata values. Beyond its role in data management, the framework is also suitable for classic Rule Manager applications, proving to be a versatile and effective solution for simplifying data handling while enhancing security and data integrity.
