Design and Test of mm-wave 3D Printed Quasioptical Components for Axion Dark Matter Search Applications

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: In this work, we designed and tested a quasioptical 3D printed Gaussian beam telescope for W-band (75-110 GHz) materials characterization. 3D printing technologies provide versatile possibilities for creating low-cost, quickly manufactured quasioptical components. By making a Gaussian beam telescope, we aim to make cryogenic reflection-based characterization of highly tunable materials in a focused beam configuration for their further usage in axion dark matter search. The quality of the 3D-printed components is suitable for material characterization applications. However, a less lossy material can be used to improve the signal-to-noise ratio. The system demonstrates a reduction of the Gaussian beam waist approximately twice the beam waist at the antenna plane, which allows the characterization of samples with a size up to 1 cm in diameter.
