Abstract: Background: Trichotillomania (TTM) is a frequently underdiagnosed psychiatric disorder that significantly impacts mental health and quality of life, particularly amongst adolescents. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and awareness of TTM amongst residents in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted amongst residents of Makkah using a self-administered online questionnaire. Data were analysed using SPSS version 28 with descriptive and inferential statistical methods. Results: Of 400 participants, 11 (2.7%) reported a history of TTM. Hair pulling most commonly affected the scalp, and 39 (9.8%) experienced distress or functional impairment. The condition was more prevalent amongst females, non-Saudis and individuals aged 28–37 years. Significant associations were also found with anxiety, obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and employment status. Conclusion: the study highlighted the importance of early screening, particularly amongst individuals with anxiety or OCD symptoms. Targeted awareness campaigns may help reach high-risk groups, improving recognition and management of TTM in the region.
