Study of database systems and their role in modern applications

Abstract: In today’s digital world, almost every application such as e-commerce websites, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems depends on databases to store and manage data efficiently. As data keeps growing rapidly, handling performance, scalability, and reliability has become more challenging. Traditional relational databases are reliable and support complex queries, but they often struggle when data becomes very large or distributed. To solve these problems, NoSQL databases were introduced, offering better scalability and flexibility. This paper studies the role of different database systems in modern applications by comparing relational and NoSQL databases and helps in understanding how to choose the right database based on application needs.
