Abstract: The book explores how mountain communities, often marginalized, actively respond to the challenges of globalization. Drawing on fieldwork in regions such as the Atlas Mountains, the French Alps, and the Scottish Highlands, Oiry Varacca examines the interactions between tourism, postcolonial collective memory, and diasporic networks. The work offers an original perspective on local resistance, challenging the idea that mountain regions are peripheral.
