Introduction to a How I Treat series on chronic myeloid leukemia

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Associate Editor Jason Gotlib introduces a comprehensive How I Treat series on chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) that focuses on the multidimensional aspects of CML care. All articles in the series use case vignettes to illustrate how recent advances in care can be applied to challenging clinical scenarios. Leyte-Vidal and Shah kick off the series with frontline treatments for the chronic phase of CML, while Soverini and Castagnetti focus on resistance and relapse. Abruzzese and Chelysheva discuss the challenges in management of CML during pregnancy. Mauro emphasizes the less common but critically important diagnosis and management of advanced phases of CML, which dovetails with the article by Chalandon, Simonetta, and Masouridi-Levrat focusing on the indication and use of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for CML. In the last article, Chen, Suttorp, and Hijiya address the unique features of treatment of children and adolescents with CML.
