Dhun: A Full-Stack Music Streaming Application

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This project introduces Dhun, a music application designed to address multiple real-world issues arising from prolonged or unregulated music listening. Many users rely on music to fall asleep, yet once they are asleep, uninterrupted playback leads to significant battery drainage, which may cause the device to shut down and result in missed alarms. Continuous overnight audio exposure can also disrupt natural sleep cycles, affecting brain rest patterns without the user’s awareness. Dhun also supports users with sleeping difficulties by recommending calming music designed to promote better sleep quality. The proposed solution demonstrates how personalized timer automation can significantly improve the impact of technology on user well-being. Beyond sleep, the application assists individuals who use music during activities such as workouts or relaxation, where users may lose track of time. To address these scenarios, Dhun enables customizable timers that can stop playback after a set duration or at a target time, with options for a gentle fade-out or a transition to an alert sound. A built-in machine learning module predicts the user’s typical sleep or activity duration to suggest optimal stop times and music/album recommendations with graphical visualization dashboard based on usage patterns. Developed using the MERN stack, Dhun provides a responsive, scalable, and user-friendly solution aimed at enhancing user well-being, conserving battery life, and improving time management through intelligent timer-based music control.
