Protocol for biomass and carbon storage estimation in tropical rainforests via remote sensing imagery
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Here, we present a protocol for estimating biomass and carbon sequestration in tropical rainforests. We describe steps for combining remotely sensed data from Sentinel-2 imagery with data collected from standard field surveys. This protocol provides a cost-effective and time-efficient solution for large-scale forest resource assessments. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Dang et al. 1 • Technique for estimation of biomass and carbon stocks in tropical rainforest ecosystems • Regression modeling to integrate satellite imagery with field-measured biomass data • Enables accurate estimation of biomass for participation in carbon credit markets Publisher’s note: Undertaking any experimental protocol requires adherence to local institutional guidelines for laboratory safety and ethics.
