Cognitive Change in Psychological Treatment for Gambling Disorder: Clinical Significance and Challenges
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This study aimed to clarify the clinical significance and challenges of introducing interventions aimed at transforming cognitive biases in individuals with gambling disorders. Therefore, it reviews studies evaluating the effectiveness of psychological interventions for gambling disorders and empirically examines the role of gambling-related cognitive biases. These findings indicate that while cognitive restructuring techniques targeting gambling show some promise in reducing gambling behavior, interventions that do not incorporate these techniques also lead to reductions in gambling-related cognitive biases.Future research should focus on developing support methods and measurement tools that target the "function" of gambling-related cognition (i.e., its impact on gambling behavior), rather than merely altering its "content.
