Energy Engineering in Amorphous Alloys: Harnessing Fictive Temperature for Improved Corrosion Resistance
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT In this study, an in‐depth investigation was carried out to elucidate the energy and structural modifications in connection with the property of corrosion resistance. The strategy is to employ the fictive temperature ( T f ) as the indicator of the energy state of amorphous alloys. The performance of the Zr 46.8 Ti 8.2 Cu 7.5 Ni 10 Be 27.5 (Vit4) amorphous alloy with varying T f values in solutions with NaCl and NaOH was studied. Remarkably, strong linear relationships were established between T f and several critical corrosion resistance parameters, which provide effective criteria for quantitatively assessing the corrosion resistance of amorphous alloys. Guided by its relation with T f , the corrosion resistance of the amorphous alloy is significantly enhanced in solutions with NaCl and NaOH. Our findings provide an insight into the regulation of corrosion resistance of amorphous alloys by energy engineering. In particular, a theoretical foundation and operational pathway have been established for predicting and evaluating the changes in the corrosion process. This discovery not only deepens our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of corrosion but also stimulates the rational design of amorphous alloys with desirable corrosion‐resistant properties.
