OCDE: A Controlled Combustion-Reference Material for Structural Survivability and Ignition-Stress Evaluation
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This work introduces OCDE (Operational Combustion Definition Element) as a reference class for controlled combustion-stress testing, explicitly separated from fuel, energy production, or operational use. OCDE is defined as a batch-isolated, non-energy combustion-reference material intended exclusively for laboratory evaluation of material, containment, ignition, and storage survivability under controlled conditions. It is not a fuel, not an energy carrier, and not intended or certified for propulsion, power generation, or energy recovery. The paper establishes: a taxonomic boundary between combustion used as a structural stressor and combustion used as an energy source, admissibility and falsifiability conditions governing that boundary, a reference-class framework enabling multiple independent instantiations without disclosing composition or fabrication intellectual property. The contribution is classificatory and methodological, not a material formulation or performance claim. Quantitative parameters, fabrication recipes, test protocols, and governance mechanisms are intentionally excluded and deferred to potential future companion documents. This publication establishes priority for OCDE as a non-fuel combustion-reference framework, creating a stable conceptual and regulatory space for reproducible survivability testing while preventing category drift toward energy or commercial use.
