Abstract: Fireworks are an important element of celebrations globally, and while there are multiple reports of their negative impact on both domestic and wild animals, there is limited data directly linking them to casualties. In this article, we present a case of mass bird deaths (over 1000) in a forest near a town following New Year’s Eve fireworks. The necropsies showed multiple fractures, organ lacerations, and internal hemorrhages. Rapid tests for avian influenza were negative, and there were no suspicious substances in the gastrointestinal tracts or on the X-ray images. This suggests the most likely reason for the deaths was severe traumatic collision injury induced by unexpected nocturnal disturbance from the fireworks nearby.
