Abstract: Periodical publications edited by Afro-Argentines of colonial descent, for their own audience and/or their surrounding society, can be divided into two periods. The first corresponds to what we designate Newspaper Cycle (from 1858 to 1930) that, according to our records, gathers 30 issues. From 1882 to 2009 we find the second period or Magazine Cycle, this being its initial academic designation. Even if this corpus is smaller (13 issues), through its dynamics, content, physical features, audience and geographical distribution, it becomes substantially differentiated from the first. In this article, we address these issues from a general standpoint, referring the reader who is interested in comparing it to the Newspaper Cycle, to my other article published in this journal, from which I replicate the structure in order to support the analytical logic therein.
