Abstract: This study aims to analyze how performance experience can activate traumatic memories of the episode known as the Carandiru Massacre (1992), which resulted in the death of at least 111 incarcerated men. For this, we draw on Achille Mbembe’s concept of necropolitics and Diana Taylor’s discussion on the transmission of traumatic memory through performance. We then analyze Negrotério: 25th Anniversary of the Carandiru Massacre (2017), created by the Coletiva Preta Performance collective.
