Type: article
Abstract: Drug components solubility in the SC-CO2 should be considered for development the pharmaceutical industry and drug delivery field. Perfect drug solubility computing and modeling in supercritical CO2 would address the best working circumstances and thermodynamic borders for drug processing with supercritical fluids. Modeling and data-measuring procedures are two common modeling methods. Using modeling-measuring procedures, the drug solubility is calculated according to the thermodynamics principles, while modeling-measuring procedures are developed using the algorithms training. In spite of acceptance of for each of these procedures, more experimental drug solubility data are still required for promoting modeling performances. For the first time and in the present communication, solubility of Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate is measured and modeled using a set of 8 semi-empirical and Peng-Robinson equation of state. Using an experimental set-up by an ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, the drug solubilities data containing 24 data were achieved at various temperatures pressures (120 bar to 270 bar) and (308 K to 338 K). The obtained results showed that the Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate solubility is in (0.32 × 10-6 to 8.43 × 10-6) range. Variation of temperature and pressure affected the solubility of Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate and pressure revealed the direct influence, but, in the case of temperature a cross-over behavior was identified. In the case of thermodynamic modeling, all models have demonstrated satisfactory alignment with experimental data but Chrastil model with AARD = 7.22 % was better. In the end, the enthalpies of the Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate/SC-CO2 system were obtained.
