Abstract: Qingyin Tune represents the first unaccompanied saxophone work composed by Zou Xiangping and holds the distinction of being the earliest unaccompanied saxophone composition by a Chinese composer. The objective of this study is to present Sichuan Qingyin (四川清音 sìchuān qīngyīn), an indigenous musical genre originating from Sichuan, China, and to analyze Zou Xiangping’s adaptation of its original musical material as a means of elucidating his individual musical language. The compositional background, compositional techniques, and performance considerations are addressed in detail.
