Seismic Performance of New Shear Energy Dissipation Connectors in Prefabricated Frame Beam-Column Joints
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This study proposes a novel prefabricated beam-column joint for frame structures, incorporating a pin-type connection system and replaceable energy-dissipating dampers installed on the upper and lower sides of the beam end. The design aims to enhance seismic performance, improve construction efficiency, and reduce post-earthquake repair costs. Using ABAQUS finite element software, one conventional cast-in-place joint and four prefabricated joint models with varying parameters were developed to analyze and compare their seismic behaviors, including damage distribution, hysteretic response, and energy dissipation capacity. The results indicate that the cast-in-place joint primarily experiences brittle flexure-shear failure at the beam end, whereas the proposed prefabricated joint fails through damper fracture, exhibiting a more ductile failure mode. Under cyclic loading, the prefabricated joints demonstrate low yielding strength, high ductility, and favorable energy dissipation characteristics. Parametric analysis further reveals that optimizing the damper configuration and dimensions significantly enhances the load-bearing capacity and ductility of the joint, while variations in concrete strength and axial compression ratio have limited influence on seismic performance. This research provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the seismic design of prefabricated frame joints equipped with supplemental energy dissipation devices.
