Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT:Wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM) is an unconventional machining process that uses a wire as atool to remove material. This study focuses on the optimization of Material Removal Rate (MRR), Kerf Width(W), and Kerf Taper Angle (θ) while machining Nimonic Alloy 75 using a Molybdenum wire with a diameter of0.18 mm on a wire-cut EDM machine. During the machining process, deionized water was utilized to cool theworkpiece and flush away small particles from the gap. The outcomes Material Removal Rate (MRR), KerfWidth (W), and Kerf Taper Angle (θ)were optimized using the Taguchi L9 orthogonal array design approach. The experiments were conducted by varying Peak Current (IP), Pulse on Time (Ton), Pulse off Time (Toff), andGap Voltage (V). An Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was employed to determine which parameters mostsignificantly influenced the Material Removal Rate, Kerf Width, and Kerf Taper Angle.
