Adolescent Health: An Indian Perspective

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: India's vast adolescent population holds the key to its future health outcomes because many serious adult diseases originate during these formative years.Major health challenges seen in this age group include mental health issues, early pregnancy, HIV/STI and infectious diseases, violence, injuries, malnutrition, and substance abuse.A comprehensive, multidimensional approach is needed to address these challenges faced by adolescents.A special focus is needed on their mental health, and introducing behavioural change towards healthy lifestyles and to create a positive social environment for life skill development. This strategic approach is crucial for fostering healthy, informed, and empowered adolescents, thereby enhancing their future well-being and societal contribution.
