Abstract: Medical Humanities!Oxymoron it must be! Very early in life we choose science and reject humanities. We must admit that we do it with lot of vanity. As a young joinee in MBBS, we all are universally bubbling with enthusiasm, no doubt! But more than enthusiasm, it is the idealism and zeal , to do things well.'I will be a good doctor', 'I will be famous' etc. are the common ambitions in a fresh MBBS entrant. As we move up the ladder, idealism and enthusiasm are gradually replaced by realism and pragmatism.A relentless focus on passing exams after exams, becomes paramount.Excellence is a long-forgotten dream. The best lot of the country changes to a bunch of better and better rote learners.Creativity in MBBS seems an alien trait! Is there a scope for humanities in this scenario?Nevertheless, isn't the goal of being a good doctor, a humanitarian goal? So, who killed this spirit-the realities of life, or our overwhelming medical curriculum?
