Abstract: Key Takeaways Improving leak detection strategies can minimize the time, labor, and cost associated with traditional leak detection methods. Water utilities can use their institutional knowledge about the distribution system to capitalize on the power of innovative machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Combining AI approaches in a single mapping platform led South Carolina's Greenville Water to scheduling efficiencies, a targeted main replacement program, and leak detection best practices in the field. Water utilities should consider the unique aspects of their distribution systems when addressing water loss issues.
