Abstract: Background With the in-depth advancement of the “Belt and Road Initiative,” cultural exchanges and economic cooperation among countries along the routes have been continuously strengthened, which provides a new perspective for the research on mental health services. Mental health patients from different regions and cultural backgrounds may be influenced by various factors when receiving community care, including culture, economy, educational level and social support, etc. Therefore, the research will provide empirical evidence for promoting regional cooperation and improving the quality of mental health services by analyzing the differences among various countries in terms of mental health service systems, care models, and patient feedback. The purpose of the research is to explore the differences in community care for mental health patients along the “Belt and Road” countries and the corresponding nursing effects. Methods The study adopted a comparative experimental design, selecting 800 mental health patients from four countries along the “Belt and Road” as the research subjects and randomly dividing them into the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group received community care based on cultural adaptation, which included psychological counseling, medication management, life skills training and family support, etc., while the control group received conventional community care services. The research was evaluated using the “Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire” (PSQ) and the “Mental Health Assessment Scale” (MHAS). PSQ includes evaluations of overall satisfaction with care services, communication quality, and emotional support, while MHAS encompasses assessments of depression, anxiety, and quality of life. Results It can be seen from the experimental results that the experimental group was significantly superior to the control group in terms of PSQ, depression score and anxiety score in the four countries. The mean PSQ of the experimental group was 78.4 ± 8.5, while that of the control group was 65.2 ± 9.4, with a p value less than 0.001, indicating a significant improvement in nursing satisfaction. Meanwhile, the depression score of MHAS in the experimental group was 20.5 ± 4.1, which was significantly lower than 28.1 ± 5.0 in the control group. The anxiety score also showed that the experimental group (22.3 ± 4.3) was lower than the control group (26.9 ± 5.6), and both were statistically significant (p<.001). This result confirms the positive role of community care based on cultural adaptation in improving the quality of life and psychological state of mental health patients. Discussion The research results show that when mental health patients in the countries along the “Belt and Road” receive community care, the care model based on cultural adaptation significantly improves patients’ satisfaction and effectively reduces their levels of depression and anxiety. This discovery provides a new perspective for communication and cooperation among countries, emphasizing the importance of cultural factors in mental health services. Future research can continue to explore nursing coping strategies in different cultural contexts, evaluate long-term effects, and design comprehensive nursing programs applicable to different countries to further promote patients’ mental health and social integration.
