Abstract: This scientific article describes the issues of increasing the effectiveness of applied gymnastics classes in developing the physical qualities of 10-11 year old pupils. In the course of the research, the features of physical development, motor activity and psychophysiological capacities characteristic of this age period were analysed. A set of exercises aimed at developing strength, agility, flexibility, balance and endurance in applied gymnastics classes was developed and tested in the course of an experimental trial. The results of the research showed that organising the classes in a stage-by-stage and systematic manner appropriate to age characteristics significantly increases the level of physical preparedness of pupils. It was also established that the pupils' interest in the lessons and their motor activity increased. The results of this research are of practical importance in the effective organisation of physical education lessons in general education schools.
