Accuracy of final-year paramedic students’ ECG interpretation and referrals for transient loss of consciousness, per the NICE CG109 guidelines
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This study highlights a gap between final-year paramedic students' ECG interpretation skills and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Clinical Guideline 109 (NICE CG109) recommendations. While many abnormal ECGs were referred despite misidentification, some high-risk patterns were missed entirely, leading to a failure to refer. These findings underscore the need for enhanced ECG training aligned with NICE CG109 to ensure newly qualified paramedics are able to correctly identify and act on significant abnormalities.
