Dimethyl sulfoxide acutely induces shear-dependent thrombosis in flow assays via red blood cell–dependent mechanisms
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), widely used as vehicle solvent in hemostasis research, acutely induces massive platelet aggregation under arterial shear conditions in a dose-, time-, and shear-dependent manner. This red blood cell-dependent prothrombotic effect warrants immediate caution when interpreting microfluidic and flow-based thrombosis assays.
