Solitary fibrous tumor of the eyelid: A case report and literature review

Year: 2026

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) are rare, slow-growing mesenchymal neoplasms most commonly found in the pleura but can also occur in extrapleural sites. Eyelid involvement is sporadic, with only a handful of cases reported yet. We report a case of a 60-year-old female with a painless, progressively enlarging mass protruding from a unique site involving the left upper eyelid margin. With the clinical possibility of naevus, the excised mass was evaluated and diagnosed as SFT with histological features of a spindle cell tumor arranged in a patternless pattern with collagen-rich stroma and staghorn-shaped vessels. Immunohistochemistry showed positivity for CD34, Bcl-2, and STAT-6, while staining for S-100, CD99, and SMA was negative. This case adds to the limited reports of eyelid SFTs and emphasizes the importance of histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis in confirming the diagnosis for therapeutic implications. Our case highlights the need for awareness of such rare periocular tumors to overcome the diagnostic challenges.
