Abstract: Cyclohexanone oxime, an intermediate in the production of nylon-6, was prepared via the ammoximation of cyclohexanone with NH3, O2 and 9,10-anthrahydroquinone-2,7-disulfonic acid disodium salt (AHQDSNa2), in the presence of a TS-1 catalyst. The H2O2 oxidant was produced in situ by AHQDSNa2 and O2. Catalytic ammoximation reactions using the AHQDSNa2/O2 oxidant exhibited superior ketone conversion and oxime selectivity compared to those using H2O2, primarily due to the lower alkalinity resulting from the reaction between AHQDSNa2 and NH4OH. AHQDSNa2 was recycled via an electrolytic reduction process coupled with the electrolytic oxidation of HCl, akin to the redox flow batteries reported in the literature. Electrolysis was performed at 40-150 mA/cm2, with a coulombic efficiency of >99% at the cathode. At the anode, HCl was oxidised to Cl2, which could be used in many chemical processes for HCl recycling. This new approach could be used to couple green energy storage with traditional chemical processes.
