Abstract: Reflecting on recent research and publications, I consider the possibilities for ‘green transitions’ in Europe’s ‘old’ industrial regions (OIRs) and more widely in the global economy. The wider changes in the global political economy are not only undermining any possibility of a ‘just’ green transition in Europe’s OIRs but that of green transitions more generally.
