Low-carbon optimal scheduling of integrated energy systems containing loads from regenerative electric boiler

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Numerous challenges remain to be addressed in the dispatch of integrated energy systems (IES), including high operational costs, high carbon emissions intensity, and insufficient consumption of renewable energy. Therefore, this study formulates a carbon neutral energy management framework for IES containing the loads of regenerative electric boiler (REB). Firstly, the IES carbon flow model based on the standardized model of energy hub matrix is constructed. Subsequently, the operational principles of REB are elucidated, with focus on their thermal inertia characteristics and the impacts of three operational modes on multi-time-scale coupling in low-carbon scheduling; Finally, the synergistic optimization of the operating cost, energy purchase cost, wind and light discard rate, and carbon emission cost, and to analyze and comparative analyses are conducted among four IES configurations: a baseline case excluding REBs, a reference case integrating conventional REB, and an extended scenario where the REB operates under three operational modes. The simulation outcomes indicate that the proposed optimization-based scheduling approach significantly improves the IES renewable energy assimilation capacity and operational economics while substantially lowering carbon emissions. • Analysis of three control modes for regenerative electric boilers. • Addresses the heat-driven power generation constraints in cogeneration plants. • An energy hub model for integrated energy systems has been constructed. • This paper employs a tiered carbon trading approach to further reduce emissions. • Regenerative electric boilers incorporated into the integrated energy system.
