Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Dear Sir, We read with interest the article by Kaur et al.[1] “Assessment of the Pattern of Substance Use and Quality of Sleep in Drug Naïve Patients: Depression vs. Mania, a Comparative Study” published in the Medical Journal of Dr. DY Patil Vidyapeeth 17: p 386-392 Mar-Apr 2024. We have a few comments on this article. Studies have shown that bipolar disorders are also common in the adolescent age group.[2] This is also confirmed from a study in India, done by Singh M et al.[3] The inclusion of this age group would have increased the strength of this study. Considering the longer duration of treatment for both substance abuse and bipolar disorders, a longitudinal study design would have allowed more time for examination of how substance use and sleep quality change with mood episodes and treatment.[4] This could provide valuable information on the relationships between these factors and the progression of mood disorders. The authors could have explored potential mechanisms underlying the observed associations. Yours sincerely, Dr. Siddhi Patel Data availability statement Data sharing not applicable to this article as no datasets were generated and/or analyzed during the current study.
