When cancer immunosurveillance “mates” hormones

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The connection between mating behavior and cancer immunosurveillance represents a fascinating intersection of evolutionary biology and immuno-oncology. Dr. Wang’s group discovered an unexpected immunosuppressive effect of mating deprivation on cancer. They also provide a novel mechanistic insight by linking this phenomenon to steroid metabolic reprogramming and epigenetic repression of endogenous retrovirus. It underscores the critical influence of social and psychological factors on tumor biology and immunotherapeutic benefits, highlighting potential avenues for targeted pharmacological interventions and integrative cancer care.
