A Disciplined School Culture: A Case Study in Secondary Education
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Background: School discipline is widely recognized as a fundamental element in fostering character development and supporting academic achievement. Effective implementation of discipline contributes to the formation of responsible behavior, time management skills, and academic focus among students. Aim: This study aims to analyze the implementation of discipline in a senior high school setting and examine its impact on student character building and academic achievement. Method: A qualitative approach was employed using observation and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students. Data were collected to explore how disciplinary policies are implemented and how they influence students’ attitudes and learning outcomes. Results: The findings indicate that the implementation of discipline plays a significant role in shaping students’ character, particularly in developing responsibility, self-regulation, organization, and effective time management. Students who consistently adhere to school rules tend to demonstrate improved academic performance due to better concentration and more efficient study habits. However, challenges were identified, including resistance from some students who perceived the rules as overly strict. In addition, inconsistency in the enforcement of discipline among school stakeholders emerged as a critical barrier to achieving optimal outcomes. Conclusion: The study concludes that well-structured and consistently enforced discipline contributes positively to character formation and academic achievement. Nevertheless, successful implementation requires balanced regulations, clear communication, and collaborative commitment among all members of the school community.
