Abstract: The present study aims to examine the risk groups for the development of osteoporosis and the role of the general practitioner's team for early diagnosis and prevention of the disease. Material and methods: In the initial stage, 55 women were examined through a screening test (Prof. Boyanov's questionnaire), which took into account genetic and behavioral factors for the risk of developing osteoporosis. Results: The study included women by age groups as follows: 34.55% up to 50 years, 20% from 50-60 years, 22.08% from 60-75 years and 14. 55% over 75 years. The study shows that 43.64% (24 respondents) of the subjects are at risk of developing osteoporosis and a study of bone mineral density (BMD) is needed. Of these, 16, 67% are under the age of 50. It is worrying that none of the respondents underwent a screening test to help with early diagnosis and prevention of the disease and its complications. Conclusion: Risk factors for the development of osteoporosis are conditionally divided into two groups. The first group includes factors that are not subject to change, such as gender, age, genetic factors, history of past fractures, family history of osteoporotic fracture and some systemic diseases. The second group includes adjustable factors, such as physical activity, diet, weight, smoking, increased alcohol and coffee intake, acute and chronic psycho-emotional stress. It is to their control and change that the main preventive measures need to be directed. In fact, raising people's awareness of healthy practices in early life contributes to greater bone mineral density and reduced risk of osteoporosis.
