Abstract: Bioactive glass has risen as promising material for artificial bone grafts due to its osteoconductivity presented in vivo, but its brittle nature gives the bone grafts poor mechanical strength. To improve the mechanical strength and stabilize the performance of the bone grafts, bone scaffolds made of inorganic bioactive glass and organic hydrogel can be utilized.3D printing enables the material to produce porous structures like that of the bone. The goal of this study is to fabricate inorganic-organic composite bone scaffolds via 3D printing and check their responses via in vitro dissolution in SBF.The main ingredients of the scaffold are CaP glass with the composition 45P2O5 -2.5B2O3 -2.5SiO2 -10Na2O -20CaO -10SrO -10MgO in mol% and 25 wt% Pluronic solution. In vitro dissolution shows the mass of the scaffold reduced, the pH of SBF increased, and ions released in SBF.The dissolution results suggest that the scaffold has dissolved in SBF and precipitated CaP layer on the surface, thus indicating their biodegradability and bioactivity.Overall, although the study demonstrates the promise of inorganic-organic composite bone scaffolds, the scaffold still requires optimizing scaffold fabrication process as well as bioactivity test methods to ensure consistent performance and product quality.
