Psychotropic medications in Pediatric practice

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This article reviews the psychotropic medications most commonly used in children and adolescents. The rise in mental health disorders in the pediatric population highlights the need to understand the available psychotropic drugs and their indications. The most frequently used medications include stimulant and nonstimulant medications prescribed for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) prescribed for depression and anxiety disorders, and antipsychotic medications prescribed for behavioral disorders.
