Urothelial Carcinoma Arising within a Hutch Diverticulum

Year: 2025
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Hutch diverticula are rare congenital bladder outpouchings, typically asymptomatic but occasionally presenting with symptoms such as recurrent urinary tract infections or vesicoureteral reflux. Intra-diverticular tumours are uncommon and may pose diagnostic challenges. Early detection through imaging is crucial for effective management and improved outcomes. We describe the case of a 50-year-old patient with painless haematuria. Imaging revealed a bladder diverticulum adjacent to the left ureterovesical junction, containing a heterogeneous contrast-enhancing solid lesion. The patient underwent diverticulectomy, and histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of papillary urothelial carcinoma. Adjuvant chemotherapy was initiated following surgery.
