Study on the domestication of bamboo lignin-degrading microbial consortium to enhance lignin degradation capacity

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The degradation of bamboo lignin by microbial consortia is critical for promoting sustainable bioenergy production. This study aims to establish a stable and efficient lignocellulosic-degrading consortium through a concentration gradient-directed domestication strategy. Using metatranscriptomic analysis, we systematically compared the changes in core strains and key genes that support lignin degradation and thoroughly investigated the mechanisms underlying the degradation process of bamboo. The results indicated that directed domestication effectively enhanced the activity of specific lignin degradation enzymes in the consortium, thereby improving the degradation efficiency of bamboo, while preserving a substantial amount of cellulose. The reconstructed degradation network presented in this study enhances the understanding of lignin degradation processes and provides a theoretical basis for the development of a sustainable bioconversion system for bamboo.
