Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Introduction: Sensitive skin syndrome is a common condition in children, associated with impaired skin barrier function. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of sensitive skin syndrome in children, related factors, and maternal observations. Methods: A total of 176 children and their mothers were included in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire, sociodemographic characteristics, and a skin sensitivity assessment scale. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical methodsResults: Of the children, 53.4% were male, with a mean age of 6.1±4.5 years. According to maternal reports, 76.7% of the children were identified as having “sensitive skin.” Irritation-prone skin was observed in 62.5% and reactive skin in 39.2% of the participants. These features were significantly more common in children with sensitive skin syndrome (p<0.001). Environmental factors (heat, cold, sun exposure, air pollution) and cosmetic products were identified as major determinants of skin sensitivity. The face was reported as the most sensitive body region (61%).Conclusion: Sensitive skin syndrome is common among children, with environmental factors and cosmetic products playing a substantial role. Maternal observations contribute to clinical assessments. Further studies with larger samples are needed to develop preventive approaches for sensitive skin syndrome in children.
